Let ORCA Teach you to fly rc |
About us The Okeechobee RC Association, Inc or ORCA for short was originally established in August 2013 as the Okeechobee RC Racing Club, Inc. with a primary focus as an RC car racing club. As the club grew so did our interests, so in June of 2015 we renamed our club to Okeechobee RC Association, inc, became an Academy of Model Aeronautics Charter Club and included all categories of Radio Control Sports in our activities including aircraft. While we gather as a club to enjoy Radio Control Sports, we are committed to supporting and promoting RC Sports within the Okeechobee community in a fun family environment.
As a club we understand and have expertise in all categories of Radio Control. We see Radio Control as the technology of the future and cutting edge today as an opportunity for our youth from and excel in. Our By-Laws have been established to share this knowledge with anyone who wants to learn from our Radio Control experience. |
our Structure
|
As ORCA reorganized we recognized to be a truly, fully diversified Radio Control Club our membership would have some similar interests and others would have different interests. In other words, some would be car people, others might be aircraft pilots and still others might enjoy both aircraft and cars or boats. To be fair to all members we developed a structure where each RC category has an equal voice in the operation of the club no matter how many members share the interest of any one category. Each category has a Vice President elected by the respective category who oversees the business of that category and speaks for that categories interest. The different Category VP's make up the executive board for the group as a whole also known as the Common Club. Financially the funds follow the same breakdown. A predetermined portion of a members annual dues based upon an approved budget is applied to the Common Club and then as portion of each members dues is a contributing amount for participation in each category as is predetermined and allocated to each Category the member decides to participate in. Under this structure for example only the Sea members would pay for dock repair.
ORCA meets the first Friday evening of the month at Big Lake Hobbies, located at 110 SW 14th Street Okeechobee FL. The meeting starts at 7:30 PM Sharp. Please feel free to contact big Lake hobbies directly for questions or directions 863-357-3592. ORCA uses the Okeechobee County Agri-Civic Center flying field and dirt track, (the track is being re-developed at this time and the boat pond is currently being test run for size.) The facility is just west of downtown on Rt 70 and is open every day from 7:00 AM till dark. Entrances exist on Rt 70 and Rt 710, most times the Rt 70 gate is open. We share the airfield with the Okeechobee Model Airplane club. most of our members fly early Saturday morning, but there are members from the other club that will typically fly on Wednesday morning also. Currently Open Drag Racing is conducted on Sunday afternoons starting at 4 PM. As we finish the track look for more race times to be added. |
